I Am Legend by Richard Matheson

Richard Matheson does a very rare thing in this book: not only does he incorporate every cliche but not once do they sound silly. He applies enough science to the vampire condition to make it sound somewhat believable but it doesn’t fall into the trap of giving all the answers. The characters are excellent, the world building is excellently paced and I just wish it was longer.

That’s the short version. Here’s the long version.
